Established in 1996, Metcalf Crane Services was founded by Tim Metcalf. Having operated a multitude of cranes whilst working within the construction industry, Tim pursued an opportunity presented whilst working on the Citylink project and invested in a new IHI CCH700 70T pin-jib crawler crane at the beginning of 1998. The early success in this new crane company with a focus on ‘Getting The Job Done” attitude resulted in more work and a number of new cranes and staff. By late 1999, the company had seen the introduction of two new Franna cranes and a Kato NK450. Staff levels grew to accommodate jobs at Appleton Dock, the telecommunications roll outs and the new Geelong freeway and Metcalf Crane Services now numbered around twenty five people. 2000 to 2004 saw the introduction of two 50T Katos, a 60T Liebherr, two Maeda minicrawlers and the mammoth job of building the National Gallery of Victoria. Along with steel erection, road infrastructure became a staple for Metcalf Cranes as the two new Franna Cranes spent countless hours completing barrier shifts along with the trucks now in the Metcalf fleet. The meteoric rise of Metcalf Crane Services through the crane industry continued through 2005 and the business moved into the 100T market with the purchase of a Grove GMK5130-1 130T All Terrain. This crane, with outstanding lift charts and very flexible counterweight configurations opened up many new opportunities for Metcalf Cranes and provided access to a host of new customers. Following a successful introduction to the ‘big’ All Terrain market, 2006 and 2007 saw the addition of a GMK5220 (220t) and a GMK4100 (100t) which proved to add real value to the fleet offering configurations the market had yet to see. Still focused on “Getting The Job Done” and with around forty people now employed, the company has become a real leader in what is still a buoyant Victorian industry. |
